There’s one word to describe this tournament so far – insanity. There have been big upsets all over the place – for the first time ever, a #1 seed lost to a #16 seed. The University of Maryland-Baltimore County knocked out Virginia, who was supposedly the best team in the tournament!
There were plenty of other upsets too – UNC lost, Michigan State choked, Xavier is out, Wichita State got knocked – who knows who else is going to be sent home early. The other top seeds have handled their business so far – Kansas has looked solid, Duke is playing well, and Purdue has advanced to the Sweet Sixteen despite their star center getting injured in the first round. Two double-digit seeds have made it to the Sweet Sixteen – Syracuse and Loyola-Chicago, both #11 seeds. Loyola-Chicago pulled off two close wins with late heroics saving them from going home.
They were not the only team that had a buzzer beater bail them out. Michigan’s Jordan Poole hit a game-winning three-pointer as time expired, helping the Wolverines knock off Houston in the round of 32. There’s nothing better than seeing a close game get decided at the buzzer with so much on the line.
The tournament continues later this week - the restaurant will be open this weekend and everyone is welcome to come by and watch the games. Enjoy some appetizers and awesome drinks while rooting for your favorite team! We'll see you this weekend!
